
Each step is like a digit in a phone number:
you have the right digits but if you don't put them in the right order, you won't be dialed in.
When a product "fails to launch" it is often because there is a breakdown in one. of the previous steps.
Each step should build on the previous one.
Otherwise:
- If you build an online Platform with no Personal Story you have no content or context for why your product or course exists.
- If you haven't determined your Positioning, you won't know what kind of Product to create or who to create it for.
- If you don't validate your course or product, you won't know how to Price it, how to Pitch it, or how to attract Partners who will promote (or sell) your stuff.
Common sense, right? Building my brand this way helped me "graduate" from client and project work to creating courses and products — allowing me to make more money in less time and "leveling up" my status. Allow me to give you one piece of advice:

If you feel stuck right now, I get it. Back in 2013 I was the CMO of a growing company just outside New York City earning six-figures a year, but felt trapped. Like everyone else I had bills to pay and family responsibilities. I didn't see how I could ever replace my day job income with a side-hustle. But I was hungry to learn and willing to try.
These are real pictures I took back in 2013 to remind myself that I wasn't as happy as my paycheck said I should be. I can laugh about it now but the frustration and pain was real. I can still feel it –– and that's why I can empathize with how you might feel right now, too.
During those long commutes I would often think, "I just need a system that will help me make the leap. I'm willing to work hard, invest in myself, and learn –– I just need to know what to do and what order to do everything in! Someone tell me!"
There was ... no one.
All I saw were programs about building platforms, public speaking, A to Z podcasting, building tribes, launching products, writing books –– but none of this mattered because I was in the START-UP phase. All of those programs were for people who already had an audience, websites, or products. I was at ground zero.
Why wasn't there anyone who could piece all these random, loose parts together? You can't just start a blog and make money, you need to build an audience. You can’t just find speaking gigs when you have limited days off work and no one knows who you are.
I’m not slamming these programs. My point is that you are left on your own to figure how to piece it all together, and most people end up “Frankensteining” their business together with no clear strategy.
After a lot of trial and error, I figured out how to build a brand WHILE ALSO MONETIZING my expertise. I didn't need to do more –– I just needed to do a few things strategically. Over time, I built BOTH a six-figure freelance business AND a six-figure online business.
I became very intentional with how I presented myself online — and I was careful to position my products, services, and brands as befitting of someone who was in the C-suite.
On my first webinar, I pitched group coaching that I charged just $150.00 for (clearly I didn't understand "positioning"). The group sold out in minutes and I made enough money to pay that month’s mortgage in one hour — without having to do time-sucking freelance projects.
I was hooked! Once I finished that coaching program, I took the content and turned it into a video course.
But my work wasn’t done: I had to learn a host of new skills for online marketing, social media, launches, and sales copywriting.
Eventually I "graduated" from client work and now run my business from my laptop coaching, creating content, running paid masterminds, speaking at conferences, and hosting my own workshops — all because I built a brand.
